Masks

Wearing masks is something I do all too well. I've always suffered from depression and also have recently been diagnosed as bipolar. Most people think of me as bubbly and quite friendly, but behind closed doors I'm a trainwreck. Only those close to me see my mood swings and the pain I hold within. For a long time I didn't think there were many like me, but lately I'm noticing the ones who look as though they've got it together the most are often the ones suffering the most. So...why do we wear these masks? Why don't we seek comfort and refuge instead of wallowing in self-pity and melancholy. I wonder...
